HOW MUCH MONEY CAN I SAVE BY SHARING A TELEPHONE LINE

National Communications Line Sharers are designed to allow low use Fax Machines, Modems, EFT-POS devices and other TELEPHONE DEVICES to SHARE TELEPHONE LINES.

Products have been developed to allow you to share these devices on a Single Telephone Line (Residential or Business Line) or even a PABX/Commander or other type of Multi-Line telephone system.

The current typical rental cost of a Residential Telephone Line is now $19.95 to $29.95 per month, which means that you spend approximately $240.00 to $360.00 per year on EACH Residential telephone line rental.

At current rental rates, in 5 YEARS this can amount to approximately $1200

The current typical rental cost of a Business Telephone Line is now between $29.95 - $34.95 per month, which means that you spend approximately $360.00 to $420.00 per year on EACH Business telephone line rental.

At current rental rates, in 5 YEARS this can amount to approximately $1800 to $2100 !!

With Rental Rates increasing regularly, your savings increase every year. If you need to connect another line for a new piece of equipment, then you will need to add an approximate additional charge of $200.00 for installation!  If there are no additional telephone pairs connected to your site, this can increase to $1000’s of dollars !

National Communications Line Sharers have been used throughout Australia since 1990 and during this time they have developed a reputation for exceptional performance and reliability.

CALLING NUMBER DISPLAY

Calling Number Display (CND), also known as Calling Line Identification (CLI) is an optional Telstra service where a callers telephone number is sent from the telephone exchange to a special CND/CLI reading device on your telephone line.

The callers phone number (unless the caller elects not to send this information) is sent as a modem type transmission of information that is sent before the first full telephone ring on your line.

Calling Number Display can be used with ALL OF OUR PRODUCTS, however the following devices MAY require you to change a dip switch setting to allow for the Calling Number Information to pass through to your reading device, but only IF your reading device is connected DIRECT to our product :

Our DUET SWITCH, EASY-CONNECT, FAXSWITCH, MODEM SWITCH and MULTIPLE NUMBER SWITCH devices in itheir default configuration are programmed to NOT PASS this first full ring, as it analyses this ring as part of its RING detection process. This means that in its default configuration, CND/CLI information will NOT pass through to your CND/CLI reading device.

If your CND/CLI reading device is NOT CONNECTED direct to our device (ie; it is connected direct to a telephone socket), then you will not need to alter any Dip Switch settings.

If your CND/CLI reading device is CONNECTED DIRECT to our device,  then you should set a Dip Switch, located on the underside of the unit, as follows :

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS

If you wish to set EASY-CONNECT, FAXSWITCH or MODEM SWITCH or to operate with the Telstra CND service, please set  :
Dip Switch 3  to the ON position.

If you wish to set DUET SWITCH or MULTIPLE NUMBER SWITCH to operate with the Telstra CND service, please set  :
Dip Switch 4  to the ON position.

ADSL/ADSL2 and ADSL2+

All National Communications products can be used on a telephone line to which ADSL/ADSL2 or ADSL2+ is also used, and the Line Sharer WILL NOT affect this service.

However, ADSL/ADSL2 and ADSL2+ can affect the performance of the following products, unless a you use a HIGH QUALITY  ADSL FILTER.

·         FAXSWITCH                  (Fax Tone detection performance may be affected)
·         MODEM SWITCH          (Modem Tone detection performance may be affected)
·         AUTO-SELECT STD       (Fax Tone detection performance may be affected)
·         Model DS1, DS2, DS3 and DS6 Door Station Line Sharers (DTMF detection performance may be affected)

To avoid these problems, it is ESSENTIAL to fit a SINGLE High Quality ADSL filter immediately ahead of the Line Sharer.

Failure to do so, or use of additional ADSL filters connected direct to your telephones, MAY cause problems in the operation of your Line Sharer.

Please Note - Most ADSL FILTERS, designed for separate connection to each telephone on your line (as usually supplied with ADSL modems) are not suitable.

A High Quality ADSL FILTER (model C10245E), suitable for the high efficiency filtering required to detect CNG Fax Tones is available as an optional extra at a cost of $35.00.

You can purchase these from your Dealer, any TELSTRA shop, or on line at :   www.natcomm.com.au

Further information on the C10245E ADSL filter can be viewed at : www.c10.com.au

FAX RECEPTION PROBLEMS  -   With FaxMate, Duet Switch, Easy-Connect or Faxswitch

Fax Reception problems are the most complex problems to solve and can be caused by :
  • An incorrect setting on your Fax Device (Fax Device = Fax Machine or Fax Modem)
  • An incorrect setting in your Fax Software (when a Fax Modem is being used)
  • Incorrect connection of your telephone equipment and/or Line Sharer
  • A fault in your Line Sharer
To successfully troubleshoot your problem, you must first disconnect your Fax Device from the Line Sharer and connect it direct to your telephone line. You can then test your Fax Device direct, without interference from the Line Sharer to determine if your Fax Device is working correctly. There is no point connecting your Fax Device to the Line Sharer or proceeding any further until the Fax Device is set up and answering Fax calls reliably.

Please Note : Due to the wide range of Fax Machines, Fax Modems and Fax Modem Software in use today, it is not possible to provide you with instructions on how to set up your Fax Device or Fax Device Software. This information can be obtained from the manual supplied with your Fax Device or from the manufacturer or supplier of your Fax Device.

Once your Fax Device is operating correctly and reliably, we have the training and experience to assist you to interconnect your Fax Device with our Line Sharer and the other equipment on your telephone line.
  • Please follow the troubleshooting steps itemised below.
  • Do not proceed to Step 2 until your Fax Device is proven to be operating correctly.

STEP 1     We need to make sure that your Fax Device is set up to receive Fax's Correctly & Reliably.
  • Please connect your Fax Device direct to the telephone line (ie bypass the Line Sharer).
  • Have someone send a fax to your Fax Device. Your Fax Device should answer in 1, 2 or 3 rings and you should receive the fax transmission. If possible, please make a note of how many rings you hear on your line before the Fax Device answers. It is recommended to set your Fax Device to answer in the minimum number of rings. 3 rings is the maximum possible for operation with a Line Sharer.
  • If the Fax Device answers the call WITHIN 3 RINGS and you receive the Fax correctly, try it a couple more times to make sure it is reliable. If your Fax Device receives all Fax Transmissions without problem, please proceed to STEP 2. Do not proceed to Step 2 until your Fax Device is proven to be operating correctly.
  • If the Fax Device DOES NOT answer the call, your Fax Device is not set in the correct answer mode. You need to get this working reliably BEFORE proceeding to the next step. You should refer to the Fax Device instructions or your Fax Device supplier for assistance on how to set your Device to AUTO-ANSWER incoming calls.
  • If the Fax Device answers the call AFTER 3 RINGS, you need to change your Fax Device to answer in 3 rings or less. You need to get this working reliably BEFORE proceeding to the next step. You should refer to the Fax Modem instructions or your Fax Device supplier for assistance.
  • If the Fax Device answers the call but the Fax is not received, your Fax Device is not set in the correct answer mode. If you are using a Fax/Modem, it may be set to answer calls looking for a Modem Data Transmission and/or a Voice Transmission instead of a Fax Transmission. You need to get this working reliably BEFORE proceeding to the next step. You should refer to the Fax Device instructions or your Fax Device supplier for assistance on how to set your Device to AUTO-ANSWER incoming calls so that FAX CALLS can be received.

STEP 2    Please re-connect your Fax Modem device to the Fax port of your Line Sharer to test Fax Reception via the Line Sharer.
  • Reconnect your Fax Device to your Line Sharer. Please ensure that you follow the installation instructions detailed in your Line Sharer User Guide.
  • Then have someone send you another Fax Transmission.
  • If you receive this Fax, then your system is set up correctly. Proceed to STEP 3.
  • If you can receive Fax Calls reliably in STEP 1 , but cannot receive Fax Calls reliably in STEP 2, refer to STEP 4.

STEP 3    Test Your System for Voice Call and/or Data Call Communication
  • Now that your Fax Reception problems have been solved, please test to ensure that your other telephone equipment is also functioning correctly.
  • When you are satisfied that all other equipment is working correctly, please proceed to STEP 5.
  • If you experience problems with the operation of any other piece of equipment that is connected to the line (for example your Telephone or Answering Machine), then disconnect the Line Sharer and all other telephone equipment from the telephone line. Re-test your equipment to see if it is functioning correctly. If this device now functions correctly, Proceed to STEP 4. If it does not function correctly, you should refer to the Device instructions or your Device supplier for assistance.

STEP 4    Please call (07) 5596 5128 for assistance
  • By providing us with the full details of the above tests, we will be able to quickly and easily determine where your problem is and recommend the appropriate solution.
STEP 5     Your system is now operation correctly
  • Please record the details of all your equipment connections and settings
  • File this information away with the User Guides & Manuals for all of your equipment, in case you need to refer to them in the future.

FAXSTREAM DUET DETECTION PROBLEMS  -   With FaxMate and Duet Switch

FaxStream Duet Detection problems are usually caused by one of the following :
  • The wrong Distinctive Ring has been programmed for your site.

We see this on an occasional basis. FaxStream Duet ring consists of a triple ring, but importantly, each of the triple rings are short and of the same duration. Multiple Number ring (the other ring that is occasionally connected by mistake) is also a triple ring, but importantly, only the first two rings are short and the last ring of the three is of normal ring duration.

It is important that our devices only respond to the correct ring. All other rings are treated as if they were normal rings.

TEST Ring your fax number from another telephone line (or mobile phone) and listen carefully to the sound of the ring

FaxStream Duet ring sounds like :  Short Ring, Short Pause, Short Ring, Short Pause, Short Ring, Long Pause && The previous pattern repeats until the call is answered or ceases.
Multiple Number ring sounds like :  Short Ring, Short Pause, Short Ring, Short Pause, Long Ring, Long Pause && The previous pattern repeats until the call is answered or ceases.

(Note Most cordless phones do not ring differently. If your cordless phone does not ring differently, you will need to connect a Corded Telephone to do this test).

If the wrong ring has been connected, contact your telephone service provider and have the correct ring programmed for your site.

  • Your Line Sharer is not receiving power
Your Power Adapter may be unplugged, not plugged in correctly, or the power outlet that it is connected to may be faulty.
TEST

The small green LED next to the power input socket should be illuminated. If power is connected you should be able to send a fax when connected to the Line Sharer, or if your Fax Device has a handset, you should be able to pick it up and get dial tone.

(Ensure that power is connected, then turn Power OFF to your Line Sharer for 15 seconds before turning Power ON again).

  • Test your Line Sharer for correct operation

If you still have a problem, you should now CALL National Communications on ph 07 55965128.

An experienced technician will need to ask you specific questions to determine the cause of your fault.

This must be done by telephone, while you are on site, during normal working hours (9AM to 5PM QLD TIME).
